Back to school

This past Monday was the first day of school for the kids here in Navarre. Tucker was a little sad to see the summer come to an end but is looking forward to his new schedule. He is part of what they call a "pod", and gets the opportunity to change classes during the day. He starts with his homeroom teacher who teaches math, changes for science, again for spelling/reading, and finally back to homeroom again. Hopefully this will get him geared up for next year when he will be changing classes all day for middle school. Sailor was all excited and looking forward to starting kindergarten, she is now a big girl! I had hoped to be able to take her to school and walk her to class for her first day but she insisted on riding the bus, such a strong willed little girl. Both kids had a great first day and we can only hope this trend will continue throughout the year.

Pier Party

For Tucker's birthday this year, all he told us he wanted to do was fish. He wanted to spend the whole day fishing with his friends. So we allowed him to invite a couple of friends to spend the day out on the fishing pier doing exactly that. They fished for a few hours, came back to the house for hamburgers, hot dogs, cake and ice cream and then it was back to the pier again. I don't know exactly how many or what was caught, but I'm sure with three little boys, there wasn't a dull moment.

Splash pad

We have some of the absolute best parks around here and this morning I took the kids over to the splash pad at Navarre Park. Cutter wasn't entirely sure what to think at first but after a few minutes of watching the other kids he was right in the middle of everything. What better way to burn off some energy and cool off at the same time.

Soppin chocolate

This was always one of my absolute favorites that I remember my granddaddy making. I am not a huge chocolate eater but something about this is just heavenly. I have never known my grandmother to make it, always granddaddy, and several years ago we felt we needed to know the secret to this wonderful treat so that it could be enjoyed for years to come, so granddaddy taught Hank how to make it. Tucker remembers granddaddy fixing this and having it at their house, but this might be the first time that Sailor remembers having it, and of course Cutter just thought it was the best ever!
