October 15th

October 15th is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. Many different events are done throughout the country but in Navarre they participate in an International Wave of Light. The goal is to light a candle at 7pm and have it burn for one hour so that for 24 hours straight on that particular day there is a wave of light over the entire world. This was the first year we had heard about the event here and were able to attend. I took Sailor and Cutter along with me since Hank and Tucker had soccer practice. Sailor was hoping there would be enough lanterns to light up the sky like they did in the movie Tangled.

It was a beautiful night overlooking Santa Rosa Sound where we released our lanterns.
Sailor and Cutter both did a little artwork on our lantern.

This was our first experience with the lanterns and I was quite surprised with how big they were.

So there may not have been as many as in Tangled, but it was still a beautiful sight.

Snorkeling

Even though we have finally started having cooler temperatures, just a few weeks ago the weather and water were both still warm enough for swimming. On one of the rare days we didn't have anything going on we spent the morning at the beach and the water was calm, clear, and perfect for snorkeling.

First, a little sand castle building.

I don't always get in the water but it was entirely too tempting.

I think next year we need to invest in new snorkel sets, my snorkel wouldn't stay up without being held and more than once I drank more than my share of saltwater!

Baby Rabbit

Last month our neighbor came over to ask for Hanks help in catching what he thought was a baby rabbit stuck in his pool. Luckily, whenever it fell in, it had managed to get itself to the skimmer and was able to sit on the flapping door that leads to the skimmer and keep itself safe from drowning. Hank was able to get it out but the poor thing was cold and wet. Hank towel dried it off real good and we decided to put it somewhere safe for the night so it could get fully dried and rested before we released it back in the yard.

Sailor was thrilled to get the chance to pet it, she loves animals. I'm pretty sure she would have gladly kept it as a pet.

Is that not the sweetest face?!

We put it in Sailor's hamster cage for the night and even brought it in the house so it could get warm and not be harmed.
Back in the yard to find it's home.

When the Redskins lose

We are a house divided, but only when it comes to NFL football. Hank is a Redskins fan and I'm a Cowboys fan and it makes for some interesting times around our house. Hard as I've tried, Cutter has ended up a Redskins fan. Since the kids have a set bedtime they don't get to see the end of the night games, sad to say but I usually fall asleep too. The morning after the Dallas/Washington game Cutter wanted to know who won and this was his response to the Redskins losing. It broke my heart to see him so upset, but not to the point that I didn't think to grab my phone and snap a few shots, priceless.

So true

I saw this one day on facebook and it was too funny to not share. I'm pretty sure every mom on the planet can relate. This is honestly my life and may explain why we don't go out very often.

TS Karen

Tropical Storm Karen formed a few weeks ago and for a little bit it looked like we were going to get a direct hit. Luckily, the storm fizzled out before it got close to land and the most we got were a couple of cloudy days, some waves for the surfers, and good practice run for us getting storm ready.

Still a pretty sight.

Happy surfers.

NB Sand Sculpting Festival ~ Finished sculptures

Sailor and I went back over to the beach the last day of the festival to see the finished sculptures. It's always pretty amazing to see what they have managed to create with just a pile of sand.

The sculpture below ended up getting first place. I have no clue how the judging is done because it certainly wasn't one of my favorites.

I believe this one was voted fan favorite which didn't surprise me much, it was pretty interesting.

NB Sand Scupting Festival 2013

Fall in this area means the tourists are gone and there are tons of activities and festivals taking place. The sand sculpting festival is held right here in Navarre and we love to go each day and see the progress being made on the sculptures. The artists start on Friday and have set hours they are allowed to work. These pictures were all taken Saturday afternoon.

This was one of Cutter's favorites, pirates.

Outdoor play

Anyone that know ours dogs will find these pictures quite entertaining. Izzy loves Daisy and loves nothing more than to go outside with her to play. Usually their play involves Izzy jumping all around (sometimes even over) Daisy, growling and biting at her ankles, trying to get her attention.

As mean and aggressive as they may look in these pictures, neither dog would ever harm anyone.
Daisy always responds back with her mean face although she has not one time ever growled or bit Izzy. They both absolutely love this.
These are the faces you get when you interrupt their play.
Pure sweetness.
